How Revenue Flows from Invoices to Reports

Understanding when revenue actually shows up in your reports helps you make sense of your financial statements and avoid surprises.

Steps

Revenue moves through the system as follows:

  1. While an invoice is a Draft, it has no effect on revenue, Accounts Receivable, or reports.
  2. Once you click Approve (or Save & Send), revenue is recorded and Accounts Receivable increases.
  3. The invoice now appears in reports such as Profit & Loss and Aged Receivables.
  4. As payments are recorded, Accounts Receivable decreases and your cash/bank balance increases accordingly.

Good to Know

Revenue is recognized at Approval, not at the older "Issued" terminology used in some older documentation - Sumung uses Draft, Approved, Sent, Paid, Partially Paid, and Overdue as its actual statuses.
