What Do Debit and Credit Columns Represent

Every journal entry line records either a Debit or a Credit amount against an account, following standard double-entry accounting.

Steps

  1. On a journal entry's line items, enter an amount in the Debit column or the Credit column for each account affected.
  2. The Journal Summary panel totals the Debits and Credits separately.
  3. The entry can only be saved or posted once total Debits equal total Credits.
